THE ONE ACADEMY, SUNWAY: Tuesday (14th January 2025), The Diploma in Digital Media students from The One Academy, hosted their final-year Digital Media Diploma showcase, titled, "Freaktion".
Freaktion, holds a significant underlying statement that represents the student's projects through the concept of "Without Friction, there are no sparks".
It’s not just about friction, they’re bold, quirky, and uniquely themselves. Freaktion — a name that celebrates our individually and the sparks they ignite when their differences collide.
In short, friction actually helps gets things done. Truly an interesting concept to dwell on and one to take into consideration in our daily lives.
Kicking off the Showcase,
Phoebe, who is the leader of Freaktion Student Showcase, started off the event with a brief about how they came across the concept of Friction turns into sparks, which was actually based on what the students faced in the early stages of planning, which led to absolutely creative ideas such as Freaktion as their Final Year Project.
The Opening Ceremony continues, with Mr Lin Yew, Head of Digital Media Design department, who congratulated the students on the successful completion of the course, while complimenting the Freaktion idea to be a thoughtful awareness to what anyone faces in the real world.
Mr Lin Yew also gave great industrial advise to the students, who will be entering into their careers soon.
Putting Concept And Processes Into Reality
The Digital Media Design students from this batch consist of, UI/UX Design, Game Design & Augmented Reality and Immersive Media Design.
Let's take a virtual tour around some of the students creative works!
1) Muhammad Irfan Bin Zainal
This project was inspired by Sleep Paralysis. This game, developed by Muhd Irfan, is a music based game where players have to tap according to the music beats for a certain amount of time, in order for the character to stay asleep.
2) Ng Kai Ying
Kai Ying developed an app that is similar to the infamous, Duolingo. This app is a gamification of learning the Teochew dialect, as the younger generation often do not know dialect, creating a communication breakdown between young and old.
3) David Kinzky
This project was inspired by a Chicken's Life In A Coop. The players will play as a chicken in a packed coop, trying to escape the coop while avoiding the coop operators.
4) Zeancs Chin
